Weekend trainings
are 24 hours in length (24 CEUs). Tuitions vary between $425 and $495. The
variation is based on the school. Times also vary but are typically all day
Friday through Sunday, 9am-6pm.
Massage for People Living with Cancer
This is a 24-hour foundational course usually run over three days. It describes the three main forms of cancer treatment, surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, the side effects caused by the treatments, and the adjustments that must be made when creating a massage plan. Massage for People Living with Cancer is a prerequisite for Massage in the Oncology Setting and Gentle Scar Tissue Mobilization Techniques.

Massage for the Chemotherapy Infusion Patient
This course is conducted in Portland, Oregon at Oregon Health and Science
University (OHSU). It gives massage therapists hands-on experience in a
clinical setting with patients receiving treatment in a chemotherapy
infusion unit. Therapists will work in two different infusion clinics,
hematology malignancies and a medical oncology infusion unit that also sees
patients in treatment for such conditions as MS, rheumatoid rheumatoid
arthritis, and anemia. There will be 24 contact hours with the massage staff
that includes instruction and supervision. Nursing staff will also oversee
the therapists during their shifts at the clinics. therapists will perform
12, three-hour shifts on a weekly basis.

Massage in the Oncology Setting
In this training, therapists will have the opportunity to work with oncology patients undergoing chemo, radiation, surgery, bone marrow transplantation, and apheresis as part of their cancer treatment. The emphasis is in the hands-on work.
Prerequisite: Massage for People Living with Cancer and Instructor Permission.

Gentle Scar Tissue Mobilization Techniques for the Post-Mastectomy and Radiation Treatment Client
This course focuses on the basic understanding of the effects of surgery and radiation on the tissues, and how scar tissue mobilization can restore healthy functioning to the fascial/musculo-skeletal system. This course will include lecture, hands-on, and supervised sessions with clients.

Mentoring in the Basics of Oncology Massage

This class is designed to systematically mentor therapists who have completed Massage for People Living with Cancer. Therapists will receive one-on-one coaching as well as mentoring through a group process.

Refresh, Renew and Review of Massage for People Living with Cancer
This is a one-day class for those who have taken Massage for People Living with Cancer (MPLWC). The day will be spent reviewing key ideas and skills from MPLWC. Ample time will be made available for participants to ask questions that have arisen about clients since taking the 3-day foundational class, to explore case studies, and further their professional development as massage practitioners,
and for therapists to reconnect with themselves and others.
